Become a Mentor
Your Opportunity to Give Back.

AIGA New York's Mentoring Program is currently in its 16th year. The program is made up of volunteer mentors that are paired with high school students based on their shared interests.

Mentors introduce their students to the world of work and help them participate in the many cultural events that the city has to offer. Pairs are required to meet for one hour per week or two hours every other week for a total of four hours a month.

AIGA New York works with the New York City Department of Education's New York City Mentoring Program and our partner school, the High School of Art and Design, to effectively coordinate and run our Mentoring Program. The AIGA/NY Mentoring Program was founded in 1993 and currently has about 50 pairs.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor for the 2009-2010 school year, please email us or visit www.aiganymentoring.org for more information.  The opportunity to become a member is available to AIGA members only.

Design Your Life with Ellen Luptongo

Ellen Lupton has been Cooper-Hewitt’s curator of contemporary design since 1992. Her new book, Design Your Life: The Pleasures and Perils of Everyday Things (St. Martin’s Press, May 2009), is co-authored with her twin sister Julia. Design Your Life takes an irreverent and realistic look at everything from toasters, bras, and pillows to housekeeping and procrastination. Speaking to readers who are both design-conscious and consumer-wary, Design Your Life taps into the popular interest in design as well as people’s desire to make their own way through a mass-produced world. The book, and others by Ellen Lupton, will be available for purchase and signing.
