FRIDAY 25 JUNE 2010–THURSDAY 22 JULY 2010
AIGA/NY MENTOR PROGRAM EXHIBIT
The AIGA/NY Mentoring Program year-end project was part of the Design Ignites Change youth mentoring initiative, Create! Don’t Hate. The students and their design mentors worked together to create powerful public billboards that address the theme of tolerance.
Most of the world’s problems can be traced to intolerance of one group by another. From the conflicts in the Middle East, homophobia and police profiling to the repression of women, bullying on high school campuses and gang violence – intolerance in one form or another impacts all of our lives.
In addition to this exhibit, a few selected will be displayed on Clear Channel’s Spectacolor HD digital billboard in Times Square from July 6th through July 31. The unveiling will be on July 6th at 10:15AM on Broadway and 47th Street. Join us there.
ABOUT
The AIGA/NY's Mentoring Program pairs volunteer mentors with high school students. Mentors introduce the students to their workplace, facilitate interaction with AIGA/NY and help them explore design in the city.
AIGA/NY works with the New York City Department of Education’s Mentoring Program and our partner school, the High School of Art and Design. Our Mentoring Program was founded in 1993 and currently has 40 student-mentor pairs.
If you'd like to participate in the mentorship program sign up in the fall or visit aiganymentoring.org for more information.
