Small Talk No. 3: Happy/Marriage
Jason Fulford and Tamara Shopsin
HAPPY/MARRIAGE:
Stories of partnership in life and art.
SMALL TALKS SERIES:
Extra large ideas find an intimate home in a formal setting. Small Talks at Bumble and bumble are opportunities to explore a panoply of visual ephemera, flights of fancy and literal brilliance. Passions will be exposed, methods unveiled, and stories shared in a series designed to provoke, inspire and delight.
Tamara Shopsin is a cook, designer, and illustrator based in her native New York City. She is a regular contributor to The New York Times and The Walrus. Her illustrations have also been featured in Paper, Good, and on Jack Spade paper goods. Recently a book of her line drawings was published called C'est le Pied. Tamara likes to make novelties; to accommodate this she runs a small general store.
Jason Fulford is a photographer, designer and curator. In 2000 he co-founded the non-profit publishing company J&L Books with artist Leanne Shapton. Since it’s conception, J&L has produced 20 books and a DVD of short films by various artists. Fulford is also a contributing editor to Blind Spot. He has lectured at Mass Art, Cranbrook Academy of Art, SVA, Wesleyan University, Corcoran College of Art, and P.S.1. His photographs have been featured in Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, Time, and on book jackets for Don Delillo, John Updike, Bertrand Russell, Terry Eagleton, Ernest Hemingway and Richard Ford. Monographs include Sunbird (J&L, 2000), Crushed (J&L, 2003) and Raising Frogs for $$$ (The Ice Plant, 2006).
Tamara and Jason first collaborated in 2005 on a wedding ceremony that ended with a black eye and a trombone parade through the West Village. Topics to be discussed on November 6th include honeymoon hotels, ski jumpers, fjords, printing presses, song poems, and secrets of New York City and Scranton, PA.
