WEDNESDAY 6 OCTOBER 2004 6:30–8:00PM
Small Talk No. 1: Paul Bacon
jazz & jacket man

Every Tuesday night Paul Bacon heads over to a bar on Eighth Avenue to play kazoo and sing jazz with Stanley’s Washboard Kings. He’s 80 years old. In the late 1950’s Bacon invented the bestseller book jacket, as we know it. Catch-22, Portnoy’s Complaint, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest—his jackets are bold, resolutely commercial, and genre-defining. Dig it.

Small Talks are intimate evenings featuring speakers from the visual culture spectrum showing their work and sharing their obsessions in an environment that allows for big conversations.

The events take place in the strikingly modern 100-seat auditorium at Bumble and bumble headquarters in the meatpacking district, preceded by drinks and snacks in the meticulously appointed Bumble library. AIGA Small Talks are clearly the most exclusive design events in town.

Apple Computer, Inc. is the exclusive sponsor of Small Talks, and we greatly appreciate their support.
